Puppy Supplies:

Crate

We start crate training before the puppies leave our home and encourage our puppy parents to continue crate training in their own homes. We do not use crates as a place of punishment, crates are a safe, happy, positive place the puppies should enjoy going. Our adult dogs’ crates our left open throughout the day and they go in and out as they please to lay down and nap. A crate can also be nice when traveling to have a safe place to secure to your puppy while you go out to dinner or out on a family non-pet friendly adventure.

We recommend getting at least a 42-inch crate with a divider. The divider is used to adjust the crate's size to your puppy's size. As your dog grows, the divider can be moved to allow more room for your dog to move. Dogs do not like to use the bathroom where they sleep so the idea is to allow just enough room for your puppy to sleep.

Elevated Dog Bed

Our dogs love their elevated dog beds. It keeps them cool, their easy to assemble, take down, and pack-up if we’re going to the lake or a trip somewhere else.

Crate Bed

We recommend starting out with a crate pad instead of a bed with stuffing. A bed with stuffing can be very dangerous for a puppy if it were to chew it up.

Snuggle Puppy

Some of our puppy parents have purchased a snuggle puppy and love them! It has a heartbeat and helps your puppy transition from sleeping with their litter mates to sleeping alone at night.

Puppy Teething

All puppies around three to four months old, start shedding their baby teeth, making room for about 42 adult teeth to come in. To make this process more comfortable for your puppy you’ll want to give them something to chew on and make sure to keep your shoes and other valuables picked up. We personally love the brand Nylabone.

Interactive Puppy Toys

Interactive toys are good to keep your puppy busy. Not only will your puppy have fun playing with their interactive toys they will also be worn out from playing with them so it’s a win/win for you and your puppy!

These three different styles of snuffle mats will present a fun challenge for your puppy. You can put their entire meal in the snuffle mat or just some treats for them to sniff out and find.

Treats

We recommend Bil Jac Training Treats. Our dogs love them, they are little, soft, fast, and easy to use while training. You can also find bags of frozen Bil Jac at local pet stores.

Kong Easy Treat can be used to stuff some of the toys that are linked above. A trick to make them last longer is to stuff them and then freeze them!

Puppy Food and Bowls

We feed our puppies Royal Canin Golden Retriever Puppy food. We feed our adult dogs Royal Canin Golden Retriever. They love it!

Collar and Leash

Grooming - Nails

It’s important to keep your puppy’s nails trimmed whether you trim them yourself, have your vet trim them, or your groomer. You don’t want it to be a stressful event for your puppy and want to start trimming their nails early. We start trimming their nails when their three days old and continue until they go to their forever homes.

Grooming - Bathing

We go to the lake a lot and I don’t always like to take up my own lake time bathing all the dogs and drying them all off, so my vehicle doesn’t smell like wet dog on the way home. The Bark Bath has been a game changer for us! It’s seriously amazing how much dirt is sucks off them and how clean they are after a weekend at the lake!

Management

Management is the key to success with owning a puppy. With you being the owner of your puppy it’s your responsibility to manage what your puppy has access to in your house and what they don’t. A couple of ways you can go about doing that is limiting your puppy’s access to only so much of your house. You can do this by using a baby gate and the exercise pens below.

We have the 32”W x 40”H.

Dog Bones

Our favorite dog bone brands are Benebone and Nylabone. Both products last forever and our dogs love them!

Dog Toys

Wireless Fence

We used to not have a fence and Pet Safe’s Wireless fence was a life saver! Literally all you have to do to install it is simply plug it in, that’s it!

We even take it to the lake with us so we can let all of our dogs off the leash and know they will stay within their set perimeter.

We have this hand held training collar and love it! We don't even have to shock ours we just use the "beep" and they listen. We find it extremely useful for when ours are off leash at crowed places or the lake to reinforce their recalls.

Household Cleaning

The Roomba was an awesome purchase and was well worth every penny! You can control it from your phone anywhere you are and with all our dogs it has done wonders.

Not only is steam mopping faster than traditional mopping, the heat of the steam also lifts the dirt off of floors, kills most bacteria, and restores shine on floors.

The ChomChom has been great to use on our furniture and in our vehicles!

I like to keep a lint roller in the car and in the house because as I’m sure you know golden retrievers have a lot of hair…
